UK EV chargepoint grants 2026 — what is available?
From 1 April 2026, the maximum support available under the main residential OZEV chargepoint grants increased to £500 per eligible socket. The grants can cover 75% of eligible chargepoint purchase and installation costs, subject to the £500 maximum.

Renters or flat owners grant
You can potentially use this grant if you either own and live in a flat, including an eligible shared-ownership flat, or rent and live in a residential property. Your home must have its own private off-street parking space and you must own or use an eligible electric vehicle.
The parking space must be off-street, private and clearly defined, accessible to you, and either owned by you or one that you have the legal right to use. You must also have proof of the necessary legal rights and permissions.
Households with on-street parking grant
This grant is for people who own or rent the home where they live but do not have private and exclusive access to off-street parking. You must have suitable on-street parking and install a permanent cross-pavement charging solution alongside the chargepoint.
A temporary cable mat or removable cable cover does not meet the requirement. You need consent from the relevant local highways authority for the cross-pavement installation and must obtain any planning or third-party permissions that apply.
The grant does not give you ownership of, or a reserved right to, the parking space outside your home.
Who should check their circumstances manually?
A manual check is sensible if your property, parking rights, vehicle arrangement or previous grant history is unusual.
Eligibility can be affected if you have already received an OZEV, EVHS or Domestic Recharge Scheme grant, the chargepoint has already been installed, the installation is required by law, or your property arrangement does not fit the normal resident categories.
Landlords also have a separate residential landlord chargepoint grant. A landlord should use that scheme rather than the resident checker above.
How do you apply in 2026?
The application process is important because the customer now takes an active role. Do not allow installation work to begin before OZEV confirms that you are eligible.
- Check that your vehicle and proposed chargepoint meet the current OZEV requirements.
- Contact an OZEV-authorised installer and obtain a dated quote.
- Obtain the property, parking, landlord, freeholder, highways, planning or other permissions required for your particular installation.
- Complete the customer grant application online and provide the requested documents.
- Wait until OZEV confirms that you are eligible before installation work starts.
- Once the approved installation is complete, your installer submits the grant claim.
- If the claim is approved, OZEV pays the grant to the installer. The installer accounts for the grant in the amount charged to you.
How much could you pay after the grant?
The grant covers 75% of eligible chargepoint purchase and installation costs, but only up to £500. This means the amount you pay depends on the eligible quoted cost and on any additional work that is not covered by the grant.
For example, if the eligible cost were £600, 75% would be £450, so the grant could be £450 and the remaining eligible cost would be £150.
If the eligible cost were £800, 75% would be £600, but the grant is capped at £500, leaving £300 of the eligible cost before any additional work or charges.
What changed on 1 April 2026?
The maximum grant available to residents increased from £350 to £500 per eligible socket and the relevant home grant schemes were extended to 31 March 2027. The flats and renters grant also moved to a customer application process.
These changes do not mean that every homeowner can receive £500. Each grant still has its own property, parking, vehicle, permission and application requirements.
